I-NΕRGΥ’s vision is summarised in 5 clear, measurable, realistic and achievable objectives, divided into 2 main categories: (O1) Reinforce the service layer of the AI-on-demand-platform, and (O2) Reaching out to new user domains and boosting the use of the platform through use cases and small-scale experiments.
- Strengthening European-wise Research and Innovation on AI through synchronising, liaising, contributing, and extending the AI4EU Platform service and research across a variety of cross-fertilisation activities, which bring AI4 Energy vertical center stage.
- I-NERGY will investigate the current state of AI4EU resources and identify assets / services that can be reused within the context of the project. The Consortium will share I-NERGY research and technical activities’ outcomes (i.e. use cases, pilots infrastructures, tech components) and publish various AI resources into the AI4EU repository (datasets, Apps, software components and libraries, AI models in the energy sector), as well as liaise with the AI4EU community and actively contribute to its activities.
- To deliver a TRL 7 DLT/blockchain/smart contract-based implementation of an energy data decentralized governance technological enabler.
- I-NERGY will enable the efficient ingestion, curation and querying of data sets coming from different sources, required for the creation and training of AI models. We will leverage on cross-sectorial IoT and semantic data interoperability framework for performing structured, federated synchronous/asynchronous ML on semantically structured data and data streams at the network edge. The main aim will be to facilitate and enable seamless open multi-lateral B2B cross-stakeholder data sharing, trusted data exchange and handling, while allowing full data sovereignty and control of respective data ownership, access, security, and protection.
- To adapt, evolve, upscale and deploy a TRL 7 technology enabler for advanced AI-based data management, learning and analytics, and deploy the I-NERGY Energy Analytics Applications along different deployment modes, ranging from experimental on-premise sandboxes to AI-as-a-Service (AIaaS) Energy Analytics operation
- I-NERGY will enable the creation of high-fidelity analytical models and their serving to digital twins, along with an actual set of trained, high-quality ML/DL/RL models. This will include privacy-preserving federated learning, cross-stakeholder transfer learning combined with dynamic self-learning, and edge/IoT data management enablers including edge-level near real time semantics and orchestration of BDVA-compliant micro-services. The above enhanced learning capabilities will be exposed through the I-NΕRGΥ Energy Analytics Applications. The resulting AI Energy Analytics Suite will span over the three deployment modes: (1) AIaaS (AI-as-a-Service) model, based on ‘AI Energy Analytics Services’, ‘Visual Analytics and Reports Engine’ and ‘I-NERGY Digital Twins’, (2) PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service) model, based on I-NERGY Marketplace, enabling selection, (3) IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service) model, based on distributed applications, providing data and processing tasks as virtualised components that can be flexibly managed over a decentralised cloud architecture.
- To validate the I-NERGY analytics by developing a variety of near real time edge-level AI-based descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics, along a number of cross-function, cross-stakeholders, cross-domain piloted applications
- We will deploy, demonstrate and validate from both technical and business perspective, the proposed AI-driven framework along 9 real life piloted AI analytics applications and services. We will incorporate the I-NERGY solution to existing or newly created digital twins and we will demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed solution through real-life demonstrations (15 use cases), which span over cross-functional, cross-stakeholder and cross-domain application scenarios. They include a large number of EPES stakeholders, including low-tech industries / low-tech SMEs [Transmission System Operators (TSOs), Distribution Service Operator (DSOs), energy suppliers, Distributed Energy Resource (DER) operators, aggregators / energy cooperatives, Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), building operators, fund and energy agencies, policy makers, off-grid data/solution providers and other third parties].
- Laying the foundation for pan European AI for energy ecosystem, boosting EU-scale data economy and use cases experiments by leveraging on systematic community-building and financing support to innovative technology/solution provider from EPES community.
- I-NERGY will leverage on the piloted technological achievements and the respective business validation to nurture a high-level durable many-fold impact, which will include:
- Open Calls: Open Calls and their respective management for stimulating and nurturing the delivery of innovative AI-driven energy services through the provisioning of Financial Support to Third Parties (FSTP), to EPES community (incl. SMEs and start-up). The selected technology transfer projects will cover a wide spread of application domains (namely the energy sector, combined with different domains, such as environment, society and economy), to demonstrate the versatility and scalability of the platform offer [WP6].
- I-NERGY Alliance: I-NERGY will leverage on community building activities for the establishment of the AI for Energy Alliance, to operate the I-NERGY framework with a view to pool and incrementally federate a critical mass of EPES community at the interplay among AI, data economy and smart energy grids/buildings, interested to data, AI resources, algorithms/models, tools, and value-added data analytics access, sharing and reuse, while keeping their data assets under full control [WP7].
- AI4EU ecosystem: Sharing and aligning the I-NERGY Alliance and outcomes of the respective community and AI innovation activities with AI4EU ecosystem [WP2, WP6, WP7].
